Hilldale Community Association
World War 1 commemoration

Hilldale and Bispham were small commmunities in 1914 - farming and the quarry dominated the local economy but men from Hilldale and Bispham or with connections to Hilldale and Bispham went to war.

Richard Houghton researched the records and compiled a list of Hilldale and Bispham men who died in the war.

They were:

Arthur Carter

John Halton

Fred or Francis Hodges

David Holmes

John Parr

Harry Shires

William Wells

Lawrence Wilkinson

There was a display of information for each of these men in the Hall on the 13th which is now lodged in the Parbold Library.

On Saturday 13th September the Hilldale Community Association installed a bench in the Playing Field with a plaque memorialising the fallen.  The short ceremeony was led by Councillor May Blake. Following the ceremony there was a BBQ for all Hilldale residents

In the evening, Darren Poyser presented an evening of songs, stories and archive film in commemoration of the Great War - the "war to end all wars".

Photographs of the event are in the Gallery.  Click here to see them.
